DPRK's mushroom farm
from the mind of  Daredemo.

Marmot has a good post Re: the latest explanation for the mysterious mushroom cloud seen over North Korea. Among the most suspicious aspect of their "we were just making a dam" explanation was that the explosion happened at night!. What kind of moron does major construction work at night!

The best theory I've heard so far is that they were trying to launch something for their "Founding Day" anniversary, and it went bad. Its all that Syrian foreign labor...

I think I believe reports that it was not an actual nuclear explosion. We would know through seismic data whether it actually was nuclear or not, and would have no reason to hide it (nor would all the other countries in the world that could also make the same measurements). I want to see satellite images -- digitalglobe doesn't have anything yet, but it took at least a week for them to get images of the last time DPRK blew something up...

I am no rocket scientist but I heard a plausble explanation is it was something similar to a MOAB or Daisy Cutter. They can use these to attempt to reach a hot enough explosion to do preliminary plutionium fission testing. Baby steps maybe but........

So, as I daydream daily about being a CIA operative over in this corner of the world, I can't help but wonder what Kim Jong Ill 'wants' us to think...

At the crux of the cold war, we learned how important the proper balance of intellegence and counterintellegence can be. I am beginning to wonder how much information was given to many of the middle east states and DPRK in the area of counterintellegence when the Soviet Union fell into shambles. (I understand that this might be giving the guys at the DPRK way to much credit, but it is a possibility...)

Also, what about a 'MOAB' type bomb? Could he be working on a non-nuke large blast bomb thinking that his country's nuclear program is going to have to be given up in the near future? I'm sure that if any world leader was impressed with the MOAB demo that took place before the invasion of Iraq, the Dear Leader of the DPRK would be in that club. I just wonder....

And, one other thing. Just think of the psychological effect of a 'mushroom cloud' rising over a city in the US. Even if it wasn't produced by a nuclear weapon, just think of the panic that could be produced by the neverending news footage of such a cloud rising over any of the major cities of the countries that are putting the pressure on Kim. Perhaps he was testing some sort of weapon that would have a 'media bark' that was much bigger than it's actual bite....

OK, now my disclaimer. I usually don't like thinking about things that begin to border on conspiracy theories. But... I give ground when thinking about other states' leaders who are nuts. Saddam fit into this category, and so does the dear leader of the DPRK. Who knows what is going through his head....
